Coffee is a very popular brewed beverage that is thought to come from Ethiopia, although the first
documented evidence of its existence came from southern Arabia in the 15th century. People love drinking
coffee for the uplifting effect that the plant has on peoples' state of altertness and mental mood, mainly
due to the high content of caffeine that can be found in coffee beans and the resulting beverage that is
brewed from them. There have been a number of scientific studies into the effects that coffee consumption has

advertise the health giving effects of their coffee, and there is much debate as to which production houses are
making the healthiest drink.
It is not all good news of the coffee health front however, mainly due to the high caffeine content of coffee
beans. The negative effects of caffeine include a stiffening of the heart walls and an increase in the risk of
addiction, and studies have shown that most moderate coffee drinkers experience some level of depression and
withdrawal symptoms when caffeine is withdrawn. Decafinated coffee products have become very popular in recent
times; and as people become more aware of the risks of caffeine consumption, the market in decafinated coffee is
increasing even more. The method of coffee preparation has a big effect on the overall caffeine content in a drink,
with espresso beverages having almost twice as much caffeine as instant coffee. Other methods of drinking coffee;
like coffee pods, filtered coffee, and drip coffee beverages, lie somewhere in the middle of these two
extremes.
